These two photos probably best demonstrate how perspective can give a radically different photograph. The first one was taken from above and is perhaps the most straightforward representation of the euphonium in the bunch. The background is non-distracting, though the woodgrain and the geometric patterns of the picnic table and the deck boards are pleasant. I really like this one for the detail of the instrument (especially when you zoom in).

By shifting the perspective down, this next one both abstracts the shape of the instrument and brings the context into play. I was especially happy with how the sky & trees look reflected in the bell. (The background might be a bit busy though. If I was doing this one again, I might try a similar shot from an angle with a less cluttered background.)

The two photos do show very different perspectives. I really like first one shot from above. The second photo is interesting but I feel that it is a bit busy and takes away from the instrument.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Meredith regarding the second photograph. It is rather busy, but I do like how the trees and clouds add to the picture. I really love the first picture with the deck boards in the background. It reminds me of an old barn, and allows for the instrument to be the focus of the photo.
