I spent the last couple of days at the Lake Moray Resort for a work meeting. It's a weird, slightly rundown (but charming in an odd Vermont way) sort of place, and in a little room off the hallway in one of the wings there was a little room with a few 80's video game and this pinball machine:
There was a large window in the other end of the pinball machine and this photo is lit by bright mid-day sunlight (hence the bright reflection of the top of the machine. You can also see the yellow flourescent light seeping out of the hallway in the background.
I came back to check on the machine a few hours later:
This photo was taken just after the sun went down, but while it was still quite light outside. The light coming in the window was much softer, and the lights from the pinball machine itself are starting to assert themselves more. I like how this particular photo captures a silhouette self-portrait in the reflection.
Finally - I went back after dark:
By this point the only sources of light were the pinball machine itself and the other video games in the room. I like how this emphasized the lights in the bottom part of the machine.
Very creative idea to photograph a video game machine. I don't enjoy the first photo as much, because the sun shines so bright on the top of the machine that you can't read the name of the game. I really like the last photo with just the lights from the game itself and other games around it. I love the glow from the inside of the game on the bottom of the machine and how a third of the top of the machine is shadowed and the rest is lit by the light inside.
ReplyDeleteNice job.
I agree with Jami. The last photo is really cool. I feel like there is sort of a casino-like lighting and it shows the detail of the different trinkets on the machine. The middle photo is well done too but it the silhoutte on the glass as well as the light spot kind of throws me off. I love that you chose the pinball machine as your object though, offers a chance for a lot of detail in your photos!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Maggie and Jami and the last picture is really cool. I also like the second photo and I don't care for the top picture the light takes over the game. I wonder if the lights in the facility could have been dimmed at all. I like how the lights from the machine illuminate the picture. Nice job!!!!
ReplyDeleteI really like old arcade style games and pinball machines! Those are some really great shots of it in different lighting. Its cool to see how the light from the sun and light from lamps make a difference in how the pinball machine appears.
ReplyDeleteI really like this way of thinking! Light on light on light. Imagine the possibilities with so many light sources and reflective surfaces. Excellent example for this assignment!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
I really like that the lighting for the last image comes from the object itstelf, really cool
